Tranquility by design... simple luxury

The 16 tranquil guest rooms at the Brickyard feature private terraces, skylights, and window walls. Every room has a rain forest shower with a Great Wall view. There are no phones or television, though we do offer iPod docking stations and wireless internet.

Flooring is native slate laid by local craftsmen who also pieced together the unique murals made of discarded glaze-spattered refractory brick that grace every room. Custom-made elm furnishings and a carefully selected hand-woven carpet create warmth and comfort.

Our rooms are havens for no more than two people who share a queen bed dressed with crisp linens and comforter. The bathroom area is two steps higher higher than the bedroom and sitting area and is open to the views. A brick wall to shoulder height ensures visual privacy and there is separate ventilation but no doors or to-the-ceiling partitions.

The rooms bring nature, views, and natural light inside with complete privacy. We are in a village and close to the rhythms of nature so if you are light sensitive in the mornings please try a comfortable eyeshade.

We provide eco-friendly hand-woven grass slippers for each guest to use while staying with us and to take away as a memento of staying with us at the Great Wall of China. As a conservation measure we offer bulk shampoo, shower gel, and hand soap in dispensers in each room but do not offer prepackaged amenities such as razor, toothbrush, and so on except by request.

Our rooms come with filtered drinking water in a pitcher but no plastic bottled water. We don't have mini-bars in the rooms but you are welcome to step over to the lodge anytime from 07:30 to midnight for complimentary coffee, tea, and soft drinks.
